Israel and Islam, Brothers?

Updated 3/29/2012

My entire focus on this post is to show the differences Between the Torah, The Prophets, What we know as the Bible, Old Testament, and also the New Testament. (Greek Writings)
and the Qur'an.  These two brothers have been fighting over the same piece of land for thousands of years now.

The more I study and the more I look further into most religions. I find that so many seem to get so mad at the Israel and Islamic conflicts that have been going on for so long. In many cases they should be. This is going to focus on why that is.

I also tend to find several people that seem misinformed on History mostly cause they are usually not allowed to look outside of their own religion to find the truth.

What makes these books so different?

One major change here is Ishmael, what they call the illegitimate son because he was born from one of Abraham's maid servants. Her name was Hagar.
Ishmael.

By all means if you can read the full chapters at the links.

In Genesis 16:1

Hagar and Ishmael

16 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The Lord judge between you and me.”

So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence.

Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”

The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.” 10 Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.” 11 And the Angel of the Lord said to her:
“Behold, you are with child,
And you shall bear a son.
You shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the Lord has heard your affliction.
12 He shall be a wild man;
His hand shall be against every man,
And every man’s hand against him.
And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”

Ishmaelites born of the Son Ishmael Tells a story that most don't see today.

To start off with,  The original language was written in Hebrew. Not Aramaic, I will get to that later.  But take a look at the Translations for yourself.
See the translations here.

You may need to download the font in order to read the above page but, it's well worth it. I use this site all the time.

Genesis 16 and 17 is where this information is at.

Then again if we go into this based on facts, we would have to begin an entire different post to talk about all this. One of my favorite studies. (Prophecies)

As Ishmael and his mother left they went to another area. The moved down to an area we all hear about on a daily basis today. Babylon, Iraq and later as time went on Persia, Assyria. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Who later became a great empire. Iran, Iraq and several others among that region.

Read more on the Ishmealites here.
Though I don't like using wiki due to how easy it is to change and post whatever you want to.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael

Notice this.

Islamic traditions consider Ishmael as the ancestor of northern Arab people,[1] while Jewish traditions are split between those who consider Ishmael their ancestor and those, like Maimonides, who believe that the northern Arabs are descended from the sons of Keturah, whom Abraham married after Sarah's death.

I will go further into this history as well.

When it comes to Hagar the name derived from more of this origin. Later than the original manuscripts.

Hagar (Hebrew: הָגָר, Modern Hagar Tiberian Hāḡār, "Stranger"; Greek: Άγαρ; Latin: Agar; Arabic: هاجر;‎ Hajar), according to the Abrahamic faiths, was an Egyptian handmaiden of Sarah, wife of Abraham. At Sarah's suggestion, she became Abraham's second wife. Her story is reported in the Book of Genesis in Judeo-Christian tradition. In Islam, her story is alluded to in the Qur'an, but her name is not mentioned. Her role is elaborated in Hadith. (Which also will be addressed in these studies) She was the mother of Abraham's son, Ishmael, who is regarded as the patriarch of the Ishmaelites i.e. the Arabs.

You see, Even back when we hear that old story of David and Goliath. Palestine, Turkey, Syria,(Damascus) and many others had the same motives that come from these same 2 nations from being half brothers all for one cause. To own and rule God's territory.

The land promised to Israel who's name was Jacob at first. Became a brotherly fight that has lasted for thousands of years.
Genesis 17
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+17&version=KJV

17Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
18And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
19And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
20And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
21But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
22And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
One born from a maid servant, And one born of his wife Sarah.

What does the Qur'an say about all this?

Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow)

(No, I did not make that up!)

First off in several place in this chapter they are warned about Jews and Christians.
2:120
And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper.

I will get into more later. Read for yourself here.
 http://quran.com/2

2:125 And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]."

126 And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day." [ Allah ] said. "And whoever disbelieves - I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination."

127 And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.

128 Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.
Personally. I feel Ishmael's side of the family already owns enough as it is. Let Israel have a home also.

129 Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
130 And who would be averse to the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.131 When his Lord said to him, "Submit", he said "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds."

Now here is where it begins to really change.

132 And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."  133 Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

I will not post the whole chapter but by all means go to the link above and read it when you can.
Notice how all of a sudden they added another name here?

136Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

Take note here, Because this is going to get very interesting from here on out. Also notice, Jesus? Islam believes Jesus is only a prophet. Downgrading him to a lower level than what most Christians know him as God in the flesh.

Note also I did not want to put this all in a blog. But to at least kick this off. I could find no other way to start this study.
Let me know what you think so far. There is a lot more areas that need to be noted in this study.
Comments and Opinions welcome.

  2. Had some trouble with some of the links, but am enjoying what is written so far. I find it interesting that in the part of the Qur'an that we have examined, that there is a call to brotherhood between Christians and Muslims. Is the war that has raged between the two been because of a degradation on both sides? How would the world look today if we had learned to respect and tolerate our differences with out brandishing our sword at the drop of a hat?

  3. Thanks Daniel, I think I got the links fixes thanks for letting me know, The hebrew site now works. I curious though as you said there was a call to brother hood in the Qur'an? I would love to see which part you are talking about here.
What I see is this. (Don't listen to anyone only Muslims. In fact I tend to see that a lot here.) While in the Bible. Muslim, or Islam or Christian, isn't even mentioned.
So I am curious as to what you mean by a call to brotherhood?

  5. Brotherhood for me can be understood from the following verse of the Holy Quran, And farewell speech of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him):

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other. Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted." (The holy Quran, Surat al-Hujurat: 13).

During his final sermon, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) called on Muslims in these terms:"There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab and for a non-Arab over an Arab; nor for white over the black nor for the black over the white except in piety. Verily the noblest among you is he who is the most pious."

"And mindkind is naught but a single nation. Holy Quran 2:213

"And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours: verily in that are Signs for those who know." Holy Quran 30:22

"And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah.s favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided." Holy Qu'ran 3:103

"Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity." Holy Qu'ran 3:104

"Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving Clear Signs: For them is a dreadful penalty,-" Holy Qu'ran 3:105

"The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee - and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him)." Holy Qu'ran 42:13

  6. RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE

And this is another aspect of the principle of the brotherhood of mankind as envisaged and enunciated by Islam: namely religious tolerance.
The essence of the attitude of Islam towards adherents of other faiths is to be found in the charter which was granted to the Jews by the Holy Prophet after his arrival in Medina, and in the message which he sent to the Christians of Najran, a town in Southern Arabia, then largely inhabited by Christians, after Islam had fully established itself in the Arab Peninsula.
"IN THE NAME OF THE MOST MERCIFUL AND COMPASSIONATE GOD." says this first charter of freedom of conscience. "GIVEN BY MOHUMMED. THE HOLY PROPHET. TO THE BELIEVERS. WHETHER OF THE QURESH OR OF YATHRIB — (AS MEDINA WAS THEN CALLED) — AND TO ALL INDIVIDUALS. OF WHATEVER ORIGIN. WHO HAVE MADE COMMON CAUSE WITH THEM: ALL THESE SHALL CONSTITUTE ONE NATION ... THE JEWS WHO ATTACH THEMSELVES TO OUR COMMONWEALTH SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM ALL INSULTS AND VEXATIONS: THEY SHALL HAVE AN EQUAL RIGHT WITH OUR PEOPLE TO OUR ASSISTANCE AND GOOD OFFICES. THE JEWS OF THE VARIOUS BRANCHES — (and here follows the names of the various Jewish tribes of Medina and the surrounding territories) — AND ALL OTHERS DOMICILED IN YATHRIB. SHALL FORM WITH THE MUSLIMS ONE COMPOSITE NATION; THEY SHALL PRACTICE THEIR RELIGION AS FREELY AS THE MUSLIMS; THE CLIENTS — MEANING THE PROTECTED. AND THE ALLIES OF THE JEWS SHALL ENJOY THE SAME SECURITY AND FREEDOM."
This was a paraphrase of the Charter granted by the Holy Prophet to the Jews after he had arrived in Yathrib...

  7. .....a town which because of him became known as MEDINAT-UN-NABI — THE CITY OF THE HOLY PROPHET, or in short Medina, while the message to the Christians of Najran, sent to them almost at the end of the Holy Prophet's mission, runs as follows:
    MESSAGE TO CHRISTIANS
"TO THE CHRISTIANS OF NAJRAN AND THE NEIGHBOURING TERRITORIES. THE SECURITY OF GOD AND THE PLEDGE OF HIS PROPHET ARE EXTENDED FOR THEIR LIVES, THEIR RELIGION, AND THEIR PROPERTY — TO THE PRESENT AS WELL AS THE ABSENT AND OTHERS BESIDES, THERE SHALL BE NO INTERFERENCE WITH THE PRACTICE OF THEIR FAITH OR THEIR OBSERVANCES; NOR ANY CHANGE IN THEIR RIGHTS OR PRIVILEGES; NO BISHOP SHALL BE REMOVED FROM HIS BISHORPIC; NOR ANY MONK FROM HIS MONASTERY, NOR ANY PRIEST FROM HIS PRIESTHOOD, AND THEY SHALL CONTINUE TO ENJOY EVERYTHING GREAT AND SMALL AS HERETOFORE: NO IMAGE OR CROSS SHALL BE DESTROYED. THEY SHALL NOT OPPRESS OR BE OPPRESSED; THEY SHALL NOT PRACTICE THE RIGHTS OF BLOOD VENGEANCE AS IN THE DAYS OF IGNORANCE — (the era before the advent of Islam) — ; NO TITLES SHALL BE LEVIED FROM THEM NOR SHALL THEY BE REQUIRED TO FURNISH PROVISIONS FOR THE TROOPS."
"This document," observes Syed Amir Ali in his book quoted before "has furnished the guiding principle to all Muslim rulers in their mode of dealing with their non-Muslim subjects, and if they have departed from it In any Instance the cause Is to be found in the character. If we separate the political necessity which has often spoken and acted in the name of religion, no faith is more tolerant than Islam to the followers of other creeds. "Reasons of State" may have led a sovereign here and there to display a certain degree of intolerance, or to insist upon a certain uniformity of faith; BUT THE SYSTEM ITSELF HAS EVER MAINTAINED THE MOST COMPLETE TOLERANCE. Christians and Jews, as a rule, have never been molested in the exercise of their religion, or forced to change their faith. If they are required to pay a special tax, It Is in lieu of military service, and it Is but right that those who enjoy the protection of the State should also contribute in some shape to the public burdens."
